La Cheim's Residential Treatment Center, Browning House, provides a safe and nurturing environment for emotionally disturbed youth, ages 12-18 whose circumstances do not permit them to live with their families or guardians.
Clinical staff facilitates daily groups and activities that are designed to enhance social, emotional and behavioral skills in support of each resident's treatment plan, happiness and future goals.

Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) serves children and adolescents ages 2 to 19 years who are impacted by extreme social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, putting them at risk of removal from their current living situation. TBS is an especially unique preventive and interventive service to help youth and their family or guardian learn new ways of managing emotions and behaviors before it becomes a crisis situation.
La Cheim TBS facilitates behavioral change through creative use of cognitive behavioral interventions and collaboration with the youth, parent/caregiver, and a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

La Cheim manages two nonpublic schools: one for the Eastern Contra Costa County Area, directed by Sue Herrera, and another for the Western Contra Costa and Alameda County Area, directed by Karen Jackson. Both schools provide special education services to students in grades 6-12 identified as having social/emotional, behavioral and learning needs that cannot be met in traditional school settings.
Our students benefit from small classes that offer a high staff-student ratio, structured and engaging core academic classes integrated with therapeutic groups and access to counselors throughout the day. Our dedicated and experienced professional staff work with each individual student to help them develop their academic skills while strengthening social skills, problem-solving and conflict resolution.
